Natural     Organic     Product or Cosmetic     Skin Healthy Information

Imagine washing your face with bleach, or laundry detergent, or a spray can of pesticides; who in their right mind would do that? Yet many skin care products, even some natural ones, have ingredients that have been in contact with toxins such as these. However, the popularity of organic foods now has brought us natural skin care products also having ingredients free from the application of toxic and persistent insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and fertilizers. Although skincare products cannot be organic, as the USDA has not created a standard for this category of products under the National Organic Program, ethical natural skin care product developers and manufacturers use a significant percentage of organic ingredients. The best products are those whose organic ingredients are certified by a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved agency and obtained directly from USDA approved certified organic farms. As an organic skin care product cannot now be legally labeled “USDA Organic,” many formulators of these label them as “made from organic ingredients.”

Inside Organic Skin Care Products
While organic farming techniques provide a safer, more sustainable environment for everyone, the positive results in skin care product ingredients have been well noted; a few years ago in one example, The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry published a study that found higher antioxidant benefits in the organic fruit extract used in a natural skin care product than that from similar non-organic fruit. One organic skin cleanser contains orange peel oil, calendula and marshmallow, another uses ingredients derived from geranium, hops and chamomile for dry or mature skin, while a third offers care for troubled skin with a purifying cleanser containing fresh organic lemon peel oil, witch hazel and burdock.

Some other popular organic skin care products offer a hydrating infusion made with organic olive leaf, calendula and marshmallow supplemented with vitamins; another that targets mature skin is a formulation containing plant phospholipids, organic herbs, organic nut and seed oils and butters, and organic flower extracts. For deep skin rejuvenation, a m ineral-based mask for mature or dry skin care is comprised of natural white clay, organic horsetail and nettle. So as you can see in this brief cross-section of organic skin care ingredients, nature is indeed bountiful in her offerings for natural skin care products.

Getting the Best Organic Skin Care Product
Simple - buy organic skin care products which have their ingredients listed clearly and understandably on the label, so you’ll know exactly what you’re buying and using on your skin. Unfortunately, recently the FDA ruled that companies cannot label certified organic body care products with the USDA Organic Seal or represent that certified organic products comply with the National Organic Program. There are many products out there, which claim they are organic. But are they really? Since the trend is quickly shifting towards all manner of organic products, be they food, clothes, or cosmetics, the skin care industry has to contend with the great temptation of unscrupulous entrepreneurs to offer new “Organic” products for rapid profit without strict regulation. In the scramble for revenue, many such industries cut corners and bring bogus goods into the market under the false banner of being “organic.” So reading the ingredient list carefully, researching the integrity of the company, and being cautious will pay off in finding good and effective organic skin care products,

Personal skin care product ingredients can enter the body through the skin, so increasingly consumers are demanding organic products they know are free of chemicals and synthetic ingredients that can be harmful to environment and human health. While government regulatory agencies sort out policy, you, as an educated and motivated user of quality, ethical natural skin care products, must take the bull by the horns and do your own product research-it’ll pay off in healthier skin!
